If one of those sounds like you, this evening was designed with you in mind. It is not a class, an audition or a sales pitch — it's a chance to see what the club actually does, ask whatever you want to ask, and go home without having committed to anything.

How the hour runs

You'll know exactly what's happening, all evening.

No surprises, no being put on the spot, and a firm finish at 8pm.

Tea, coffee and hello

Arrive, get a cup of something, and be introduced to a couple of members. Nobody is left standing on their own at the edge of the room.

What the club actually does

A short, plain-English introduction: what happens at a normal meeting, how the practice is structured, and what the club is like.

Meet members, ask anything

Informal conversation with people who joined for the same reasons you're considering it. Ask about the nerves, the cost, the time commitment — whatever's actually on your mind.

We finish on the hour. If you'd like to come to a September meeting, we'll tell you how. If not, that's genuinely fine.

You will not be asked to speak.

That's a promise, not a formality. There is no going round the room, no introducing yourself to everyone, and no impromptu exercise you'll be pulled into. Watching quietly is exactly what most of our members did on their first night.

One thing worth knowing: this taster night is at Wicklow Library, which is not where the club normally meets. Our regular meetings run at An Tairseach Ecology Centre from September to June.

Come to a regular meeting instead — you don't have to wait for another taster night. Our season runs from September to June, on the first, third and fifth Thursday of the month, and guests are always welcome free of charge with no obligation to speak. Let us know you'd like to come along and we'll be in touch when the new season starts.
Really. The evening is built around you listening and asking questions if you want to. There's no round-the-room introduction and no impromptu exercise. If you'd rather say nothing all evening beyond hello, that is a completely normal way to spend the hour.
The taster night is free, and there's nothing to pay on the night. If you later decide to join the club, we'll give you the current membership figure plainly, with no hard sell. We have discounts for students and for people currently seeking employment.
Yes, and plenty of people do — walking in with a friend makes a first visit much easier. Please register each person separately so we know how many seats to keep.
Neither. It's a single evening with no follow-on obligation. Our regular meetings restart in September, and you're welcome to come along as a guest then — but that's a separate decision you can make afterwards, or not at all.
A real mix. People preparing for interviews or presentations, students, business owners, people with a wedding speech coming up, and people who simply want to be less uncomfortable speaking in front of others. Ages range widely and complete beginners are the norm.
No. The club is non-profit, non-political and non-religious. Nobody will try to sell you anything on the night.
